ROCK Committee
Reaching Out to the Community with Kindness
ROCK stands for Reaching Out to the Community with Kindness. This committee was created in January, 2001 with two goals in mind: (1) to help members of the Department of Public Health Sciences get to know one another in a "non-work" situation; and (2) to provide volunteer services within our community.
The ROCK Committee, which has representatives from each of the PHS sections, gathers each month to discuss how our department might best meet the needs of different organizations in the community. To date, we have set up bi-weekly volunteer activities at the Second Harvest Food Bank of North Carolina, including one Saturday session to help our children understand the importance of volunteering. We also have occasional volunteer sessions at the Kids Café and the Forsyth County Humane Society.
In addition, we have provided opportunities for PHS employees to donate items to agencies in need; for example, we have collected toothbrushes and deodorant for Samaritan Ministries and SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now). We are always open to opportunities that benefit the community and strengthen our ties to each other as members of the PHS Department.
If you are interested in being on the ROCK committee or have suggestions for volunteer activities, please contact Rebecca Neiberg (3-4757) or Donna Kronner (3-4231).
