Department of Social Sciences & Health Policy

Section on Healthcare Systems and Policy

The Section on Healthcare Systems and Policy focuses on understanding how to organize healthcare delivery so that is it safe, effective, efficient, equitable, affordable, accessible and patient-centered.  Section faculty and staff examine the how the organization of healthcare impacts care delivery and patient outcomes, and how structural and policy changes can improve care delivery and patient outcomes.

The goals of the Section on Healthcare Systems and Policy are to:

  1. Serve as a platform for research among faculty interested in healthcare systems, economics and policy by nurturing ideas, facilitating collaboration and supporting faculty productivity and enrichment.
  1. Retain and recruit core faculty, including mentoring of junior faculty and identifying and pursuing opportunities to recruit additional faculty.
  1. Build infrastructure uniquely needed for healthcare systems and policy research, particularly as related to the statistical and econometric analysis of large databases.
  1. Support academic programs through formal teaching in the Health Services Research masters program and undergraduate and graduate medical education, as well as sponsoring seminars and mentoring students.
